If you believe in the importance of preserving the natural beauty of Wakulla County’s beaches and coastline, then join with other passionate volunteers for the 2016 Coastal Cleanup and help ensure that future generations have access to a remarkable and diverse marine ecosystem.
Beginning bright and early at 8:00 AM on Saturday, September 17, crews of dedicated volunteers will head out to several sites along the Wakulla County coast and contribute to the area’s lasting beauty by removing litter.
You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about why it’s so important to keep the coastal areas free from unwanted debris, and you can participate in the post-cleanup celebration taking place at Wooley Park in Panacea. Don’t miss your chance to help the community, connect with like-minded neighbors, and celebrate your efforts with exciting events.
Preserve the wildlife and natural beauty of Wakulla County
The Coastal Cleanup is organized by volunteers with Keep Wakulla County Beautiful (an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful). Their mission “is to enrich the community through education, beautification, and conservation by engaging individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community’s environment.”
The annual Coastal Cleanup allows for these volunteers to work with enthusiastic locals and visitors to keep Wakulla County as natural as possible for years to come. By volunteering to take part in this year’s effort, you can do your part to protect the incredibly unique natural environment that makes Wakulla County such a special and unique place in North Florida.
Clean up with other passionate advocates at several different locations
When you sign up to assist with the Coastal Cleanup, you’ll be working with dozens of other individuals who understand the importance of preserving these sensitive ecosystems. If you volunteer in advance, you can select from one of the following sites and go straight there on the morning of the cleanup:
- St. Marks Wildlife Refuge – Lighthouse Road
- Shell Point – at the Pavilion
- Bottoms Road – at the boat launch
- Mashes Sands – at the park area
- St. Marks – San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park – at the gate
Don’t worry if you missed the advance sign up, you can still participate! Simply be at Wooley Park by 8:30 AM, and the organizers will assign you to one of the sites.
Join in the celebration following a day helping the environment
After you’ve done your work preserving the pristine coastal areas of Wakulla County, be sure to head back to Wooley Park for lunch and several prize giveaways, including the famous Litter Loot. It’s the perfect way to cap off a day of admiring and protecting the astonishingly beautiful land of Wakulla County.
