Sopchoppy Depot Days is right around the corner! On Saturday, September 10, join us for an all-day event to celebrate the Wakulla area’s history and bring the town together with something for everyone in the family to enjoy. This special occasion offers several educational and entertaining opportunities for both kids and parents.
What you can expect:
- Exciting presentations by Historian BJ Allen on the region’s significant turpentine history
- Information on the Depot Museum’s creation from the Founder/Director Nelson Martin
- The Big Bend Model Railroad Association’s giant model train layout continuously running inside the Towles Building beside the Museum
- Kiddies Train operated by Engineer John Borden
- Arts and crafts and games for kids
- Banjo and storytelling by Frank Lindamood
- Arts and Craft Vendors and Food Vendors
- New, featured beer for the event from Sopchoppy’s own Civic Brewery!
The Sopchoppy Community Market hosting most activities will be open from 9 AM to 4 PM. The Depot Museum & Big Bend Model Railroad Association Exhibit will be open from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Historian BJ Allen will be informing on the region’s historical significance, and we will learn about the creation of the Depot Museum from its Founder, Nelson Martin. In the Towles Building beside the Museum, you will also find a giant model train layout that will run continuously throughout the day!
There are interactive activities for the kids as well! Engineer John Borden will be operating the Kiddies Train to take the kids on a ride around the Market. There will also be an exciting performance by banjo player and storyteller Frank Lindamood. Plus, arts and crafts and games for kids! Children of all ages will find something to do in this jam-packed day of exciting activities.
We didn’t forget about the parents: Enjoy local food from the number of food vendors that will be joining the event. These include Sopchoppy’s own Civic Brewery which has created a new, featured beer just for Sopchoppy Depot Days!
We hope that Sopchoppy Depot Days allows all members of the family to gain an appreciation for the city of Sopchoppy and the surrounding area not only through the fascinating presentations and exhibits, but also by allowing families the opportunity to have an amazing day in our special town!
