The holiday season is in full swing in Wakulla County! With the weather getting cooler, now is a great time to visit Wakulla, especially to take part in our end of year events. From spending time shopping in a Florida snow flurry, to meeting Santa Claus, and even hiking in the beautiful outdoors, Wakulla has a little bit of something for everyone to celebrate the holidays this year.
Christmas in Panacea
Kicking off a month full of festive family fun is Christmas in Panacea on December 3rd from 4-8 pm. It is a great way to get into the holiday spirit and support local businesses.
The Panacea Christmas celebration includes snow, children’s activities and a bounce house, vendors and entertainment, the Gulf Specimen Sea Mobile, and the annual parade down U.S. Highway 98 at 6:30 pm which will be followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree and a visit from ol’ Saint Nick himself. Local home and boat owners participate by decorating their house or boat with Christmas Lights. Everybody gets into the Christmas mood!
Christmas in the Park
Christmas in the Park is put on by the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office as a way to give back to the kids in the community. On December 10th from 4-8 pm, Santa Claus will stop by the Hudson Park for pictures before he gears up for his annual trip. There will also be games, prizes and train rides, as well as a host of vendors with holiday-themed products.
First Day Hike
Start 2017 off on the right foot by going on a ranger-led trek through Wakulla Springs State Park’s varying forest communities. Ring the new year in by learning Wakulla history and enjoy the beautiful nature and weather.
If you’re not local to the Wakulla County area, spend the holidays in one of our great hotels or bed and breakfasts. You won’t want to miss our beautiful parks and nature trails too. We hope to see you at these great events as we celebrate 2016 and look ahead to 2017!
