We had a wonderful time in Wakulla County this year. In case you weren’t able to attend some of our events, here’s a quick recap of several of the great events that took place:
January – Knapfest: The Ninth Annual Stone Age And Primitive Arts Fest
Festival-goers got a peek into the lives of Stone Age-era humans through experiences such as atlatl dart throwing and a primitive bow competition. This illuminating educational celebration was truly one of a kind.
February – St. Marks Heritage Festival
The St. Marks Heritage Festival was an opportunity to honor all of the wildlife that makes Wakulla County such a unique natural environment. Dozens of different exhibitors were on hand to educate the public, such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Forest Service.
March – River Bassin’ Tournament
In March, the River Bassin Tournament Trail rolled through Wakulla County, allowing anglers to compete by uploading smartphone pics of their catches right from the boat.
April – 2016 Wakulla Wildlife Festival
Wakulla Springs State Park welcomed visitors to this celebration featuring interactive presentations from wildlife experts and opportunities for guided tours of the unspoiled scenery.
April – Sopchoppy Worm Gruntin’ Festival
Worm gruntin’ involves sending vibrations into the soil to force earthworms up, but that wasn’t the only activity at this event. Live music, a 5K fun run/walk, and so much more also awaited guests in Sopchoppy this past April.
April – Rock the Dock Fishing Tournament
Anglers of all skill levels had a blast at the Rock the Dock Fishing Tournament last Spring, and a lucky raffle winner was awarded a fantastic 2016 Skeeter SX200 bay boat.
May – Big Bend Kayak Classic
The Big Bend Kayak Classic gave fishing enthusiasts the chance to explore the scenic waters of Wakulla County and support a good cause, as all proceeds went to benefit the Meals on Wheels program.
May – Panacea Blue Crab Festival
After kicking off with the Coastal Optimist Club parade, this day was full of eating delicious blue crabs from the bounty of the Gulf of Mexico.
June through September – Scalloping Season In Wakulla County
All summer long, residents and visitors alike plied the beautiful shallow grass beds on the coast for succulent and sweet bay scallops that are delicious any way you cook them.
August – Wings & Wheels Fly-In
This year marked the second annual Wings & Wheels Fly-In, combining a celebration of aviation and automotive power through events such as free airplane rides and classic car awards.
October – St. Marks Stone Crab Festival
Stone crab season is one of the most anticipated parts of the year in Wakulla County. The St. Marks Stone Crab Festival kicked off the season in October with bushels of delectable stone crab claws and live entertainment throughout the day.
October – Monarch Butterfly Festival
Wildlife fans caught sight of the incredible monarch butterfly migration. These butterflies pass through the Wakulla County coast this time each year, specifically at the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. The festival included several wildlife exhibits and demonstrations.
December – Christmas in Wakulla
The Christmas in Wakulla celebration proved that Wakulla County truly shines under the holiday lights. A parade, the lighting of the Christmas tree, and a visit from Santa himself were all part of the holiday fun.
