That’s why the annual Arbor Day celebration is one of our most beloved traditions. This fantastic event is organized by the Iris Garden Club of Wakulla County, and it’s a great opportunity to honor the importance of trees in our world.
Since national Arbor Day is celebrated in April you may be wondering why ours takes place in January. It all has to do with our ecosystem, as this is the time of year where many tree species are dormant and can be transported more easily without losing excessive amounts of water.

The centerpiece of Wakulla County’s Arbor Day celebration is the selection of trees available. The Wakulla County Garden Club provides over a thousand free trees at the event, so every attendee can take home their own to plant in their yard. If extra trees are available they can usually be obtained for a small donation. By planting a tree you not only help reduce air pollution, conserve energy, and provide a habitat for native species, you also help to keep your community as beautiful as possible.
